VERY HIGH QUALITY AND LOWER QUANTITY

Portugal had a harvest of above average quality and variable production by region, thanks to a mild, rainy year and little instability in the harvest.

Em julho, o IVV-Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho estimava -8% em volume relativamente a 2023 em Portugal, efeito do tempo instável que afetou várias fases do ciclo e favoreceu doenças. A previsão de 6,9 milhões hectolitros está na média dos últimos 5 anos [IVV-Previsão Colheita 2024]. O verão ameno permitiu maturações equilibradas, e as vindimas decorreram calmas até meados de setembro. Entre 15-19.set o tempo seco e ventos fortes causaram incêndios devastadores no centro e norte do país (arderam >135.000ha) e as chuvas e instabilidade pós-equinócio afetaram alguns finais de colheita. The high quality of the harvest reflects the year's conditions, the diversity of the locations and the meticulous work, creating the highest expectations for the evolution of wines.

In July, the IVV-Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho (Portuguese Vine and Wine Institute) estimated an 8% decline in volume compared to 2023 in Portugal due to the unsettled weather that affected various phases of the cycle and facilitated diseases. The forecast of 6.9 million hectolitres is within the average of the past five years [IVV-Previsão Colheita 2024]. The mild summer allowed for balanced ripening, and harvests ran smoothly until mid-September. From 15 to 19 September, dry weather and strong winds caused devastating fires in central and northern Portugal (burning more than 135,000 hectares), while post-equinox rains and instability affected some harvest endings.
