Vinhos Verdes

Vinhos Verdes

Portugal’s north-western strip between the Douro and Minho Rivers, the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains, is the home of the vast Vinho Verde region. Facing the sea and higher towards the inland, it is a cool region with a mild climate, crossed by rivers which demarcate its 9 sub-regions. Famed above all for its white wines, it is buzzing with new expressions of traditional grape varieties in different terroirs.

The connection of Sogrape’s founding Guedes family to the region runs deep, naturally resulting in the purchase of the historic Quinta de Azevedo in 1982. Today, these lands give birth to outstanding white wines of the Loureiro and Alvarinho grape varieties. Located near Barcelos, and dating back to the 11th century, the farm’s manor and tower were rescued from near ruin for future generations to make a one-of-a-kind estate which dignifies the region.
