Série Ímpar Retorto 2018: Discover the new edition
Série Ímpar may be an experimental wine, as the name suggests, but the challenge is always the same. And so the second edition came into being of a project that challenges Sogrape’s winemaking team to create original wines of superior quality.
Série Ímpar Retorto 2018 is a white wine with great freshness, purity and complexity, the result of a blend with dominant notes of Arinto, Roupeiro, Bical, Fernão Pires and Tamarez. Originating from a small plot of old vines, twisted and shaped into the form of a goblet in the Serra de São Mamede mountains of Portalegre, this wine mirrors the potential of a region that is recognized for its biodiversity and for creating wines with strong personality, symbols of the Portuguese winegrowing culture.
After surprising us in 2019, with the launch of the Série Ímpar brand and the presentation of a Sercialinho da Bairrada, Sogrape is now launching the second episode of a series that reflects the company’s ability to tell new stories, in this case, giving its cast free reign to shape the plot to their image, and present a final work of excellence.
“The challenge is thrown down to our winemakers, but in this scenario, we all stand to gain, contributing to the history of a company that has always prided itself, after all, on its capacity for innovation, surprise and boldness”, explains Fernando da Cunha Guedes, Chairman of Sogrape.
It is the Sogrape winemaker responsible for the Alentejo region who signs this new response to the challenge launched by Fernando da Cunha Guedes himself. “Retorto” because it comes from very old vines that have been twisted over the years, at an altitude of 640 metres. The new Série Ímpar is the fruit of the passion for nature and the search for originality that inspire Luís Cabral de Almeida and his team. “I’m fascinated by the Alentejo, and Portalegre is a region with natural conditions that has thrown up new challenges. Here, I began to work with different grape varieties and I was able to produce a carefully-worked masterpiece from old vines, which are a treasure for any wine professional.”
