Sogrape joins United Nations Global Compact programme
Sogrape is one of the 12,000 companies and organisations in over 160 countries that have joined the United Nations Global Compact programme. This involves a voluntary commitment to promoting responsible business practices in various areas - human rights, labour, the environment and the fight against corruption.
The main objective of the Global Compact is to encourage the corporate community to adopt policies and measures that promote sustainability and contribute to equitable social development - with innovative solutions to tackle poverty and inequality and to support education, health and peace.
The Global Compact defends ten global principles, divided into three areas of impact:
- Human rights - "Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights" and "make sure they are not complicit in human rights violations";
- Labour - "Companies should defend freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining", "the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour", "the effective abolition of child labour", and "the elimination of discrimination in employment and occupation";
- Environment - "Businesses should support a preventive approach to environmental challenges", "undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility", and "encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies";
- Anti-corruption - "Companies should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery".
By joining this initiative, Sogrape is committing to aligning our operations and strategies with the universal principles of the Global Compact, contributing to building a fairer, more ethical and sustainable world - by instilling conscious thinking on critical social and environmental issues.
Our adherence to this type of programme transcends the global sphere and directly impacts Sogrape's sustainability - we not only strengthen our reputation in the market but also invest in the well-being of the communities in which we operate, becoming agents of positive and sustainable change.
