Casa Ferreirinha Reinforces Winemaking Team

Casa Ferreirinha, a household name in the history of Douro DOC wines, announced the return of Lourenço Charters to Sogrape to reinforce the Douro wines oenology team led by Luís de Sottomayor.

Since it was established over 70 years ago, only three winemakers have led Casa Ferreirinha’s oenology team: Fernando Nicolau de Almeida, the visionary behind the iconic Barca-Velha; José Maria Soares Franco; and, since 2007, Luís de Sottomayor. These names are part of the living history of this House and, during the 90s, they even worked together to ensure the continuation of an unparalleled winemaking legacy.

Lourenço Charters now joins this distinguished roster as part of Luís de Sottomayor’s team. The winemaker, who learned the ropes in France, South Africa, and Australia, previously worked with Sogrape between 2020 and 2021, and now returns to the company to fully dedicate himself to the Douro Region and contribute to Casa Ferreirinha’s stature as an essential reference in Portuguese wines.
