Herdade do Peso announces Ícone 2018
The waiting was worthwhile. Time was given its due respect, and nature dictated that 2018 would reveal itself a great year, worthy of a new Ícone, by Herdade do Peso. With temperatures below average, July and August were paramount in creating the conditions for a perfect phenolic maturation.
As the flagship of the Peso, this new introduction adds an important chapter to the history of the “new” Herdade do Peso. It represents the pinnacle of a strong investment and commitment in the viticulture and biodiversity of this estate in the heart of Vidigueira, which have already resulted in new wines and a new winery.
Only three editions reached the public, and this is the second one bearing Luís Cabral de Almeida’s signature. According to the winemaker, “2018 Ícone represents the profound knowledge that everyone at Herdade do Peso possesses about the region, about Vidigueira, and also about our vineyards and grapes. It also represents our passion and dedication to delivering high quality, gastronomic, and authentic wines, true to their origins”. Bottled in 2020, it comprises the best Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, and Petit Verdot grapes, he comments that it comes forth as a “powerful wine, yet with such elegance and complexity that we were only able to create with an extra help from nature”. The profile is also a result of the ageing period of 12 months in 3000L French oak vats.
With the launching scheduled for the end of this month, Herdade do Peso 2018 Ícone will be available in wine stores and top restaurants.
