Sogrape accelerates energy transition and surpasses 5,000 MWh of solar energy in Portugal

To mark Energy Day, celebrated on May 29, Sogrape is reinforcing its commitment to decarbonisation and energy efficiency across its entire value chain, as part of its Global Sustainability Programme, Seed the Future. In this context, the company has set a target to operate with 100% renewable energy in its Iberian operations by 2027.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7), Sogrape has been consolidating the energy transition as a pillar of its competitiveness and global resilience.

In Portugal, this journey is supported by ongoing investment in facility modernisation and improved operational energy efficiency. As a result of its focus on self-generation, the Avintes, Anadia, Herdade do Peso and Quinta da Muxagata sites achieved a cumulative photovoltaic production of 5,062.60 MWh between 2020 and 2025, avoiding the emission of approximately 908 tonnes of CO2eq. The strategy also extends to Spain, where Bodegas LAN already operates using 100% certified renewable electricity, while other sites continue to expand their solar self-consumption capacity.

Internationally, Sogrape adapts its approach to the specificities of each market. In South America, Viña Los Boldos in Chile and Finca Flichman in Argentina have been strengthening their transition to cleaner energy matrices. In the United Kingdom, Liberty Wines has been increasing solar energy generation within its logistics operations.

“Energy transition is essential to strengthening our resilience and promoting a more efficient and environmentally responsible operation. For a family-owned company like Sogrape, it is also a long-term responsibility: investing in renewable energy today is safeguarding the future of our business, the regions where our wines are produced, and the communities where we operate,” said Mafalda Guedes, Head of Corporate Communications & Sustainability at Sogrape and a 4th generation of the founding family.

For Sogrape, renewable energy is a strategic lever, enabling the Group to reduce exposure to external risks, optimise operating costs, and strengthen its long-term energy autonomy.
