In the northern interior of the country, the granitic Beirão Plateau is the home of this ancient region, surrounded by mountains which protect and influence its moderate climate, from sunny summers to chilly winters, divided into 7 sub-regions. As the cradle of these noble grape varieties, the Dão captivates for the fineness and expression of its wines.

In the Dão since 1957, Sogrape acquired and planted Quinta dos Carvalhais in 1988, resulting in an exemplary undertaking which helped to renew this region. Close to Mangualde, its various plots and soils produce excellent native grape varieties – such as Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and Encruzado – which have been transformed by ancient knowledge and modern know-how into enticing, incredibly artful and enduring wines.
