Located along Portugal’s central coastline, Lisbon is a vast and diverse wine region, home to highly appealing wines made from both native and international grape varieties. As one of Portugal’s key regions, it includes historic and distinctive wine-producing areas such as Bucelas, Colares, and Carcavelos.


Lisboa

Established in 2009, the Lisbon region stretches from the Beiras in the north to the outskirts of the Portuguese capital in the south, covering different areas where 9 DOCs are produced, including still wines, sparkling wines, fortified wines, and brandies, as well as the PGI Lisboa. Influenced by the sea and winds, hills, and mountains, the coastal areas are cooler, while the inland zones are warmer and drier. The diversity of conditions, varied soils, and, in some cases, ancestral practices shape fresh and intense white wines, as well as fruity and smooth red wines, some with great aging potential.

Acquired by Sogrape in 2019, the 300-year-old Quinta da Romeira is emblematic in Bucelas. Vineyards cover around half of the entire region, which is planted with Arinto, the main grape variety of this exclusive white wine designation of origin. The farm’s various plots, altitudes, hillsides, soils and exposures, coupled with meticulous winemaking work, create a wide range of intense, delicious wines whose expression is enhanced with age.

Quinta da Romeira’s origins merge with the history of the great white wines of the Lisbon region. Morgado de Santa Catarina, established in 1703 to fulfil the desires of Catherine of Braganza, included the property of Romeira and noteworthy 18th-century manor, with its emblematic Manueline windows. The property’s 73 hectares of vineyards give rise to wines with long histories, recognised for their excellence and their best expression of the Arinto grape variety, a distinctive feature of Bucelas.
