Seven national wine producers come together to pay tribute to Amália Rodrigues
Combining the tradition of fado with a passion for viticulture, seven producers accepted the Amália Rodrigues Foundation's challenge to produce a wine to commemorate the centenary of Amália's birth. With the aim of creating something unique - greater than a brand or region, the idea was born of conceiving a wine that represented the country and that would eternalize the fado singer in the collective memory - the regions that best highlight Portugal in the quality of red wines were selected, such as the Douro, the Dão, the upper and lower Alentejo and Lisbon.
Rita Nabeiro from Adega Mayor, Francisca Van Zeller from Van Zellers & Co, Maria Manuel Maia from Poças, Luísa Amorim from Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, Rita Pinto from Quinta do Pinto, Mafalda Guedes from Sogrape and Catarina Vieira from Herdade do Rocim join forces in a pioneering initiative that aims to give voice to the immensity of Amália, with proceeds going to the Amália Rodrigues Foundation through the launch of Amálias 100.
All the proceeds from this exclusive wine will go to the Foundation, which will use the money raised for the institutions it supports, such as Casa do Artista, as well as for restoration work on Amália Rodrigues' house, which is essential for the preservation of the artist's estate.
Amálias 100 is a red wine from the 2020 harvest (Amália's centenary year) that is complex, intense, elegant and has a high potential for evolution. With grape varieties from different regions of the country that highlight the quality of Portugal's different geographies, this blend highlights the excellence and quality of Touriga Nacional (27%); Alicante Bouschet (26%); Alfrocheiro (20%); Touriga Franca (13%); Trincadeira (7%); and Field Blend Vinhas Velhas (7%).
