Porto Ferreira has once again earned recognition from Wine Enthusiast, with its Vintage 2024 securing the No. 1 spot in the Top 100 Cellar Selections, the American magazine's annual ranking of wines with the most exceptional aging potential. Awarded 99 points, Porto Ferreira Vintage 2024 still is the only Portuguese wine included in the list, leading a ranking that recognizes wines from different regions and categories from all over the world - an extraordinary distinction for Porto Ferreira, Sogrape, and Portuguese wine.
Produced only in exceptional harvest years, Vintage Port represents the ultimate expression of Port Wine and is one of its most prestigious categories. Porto Ferreira Vintage 2024 captures the distinctive character of the harvest in a wine of remarkable depth, revealing floral notes, red fruit, and spices, complemented by balsamic and mineral hints that contribute to its complexity and aging potential.
The Top 100 Cellar Selections annually recognizes wines selected by Wine Enthusiast for their potential to develop and evolve in the bottle. Featuring wines from different regions and categories around the world, the ranking serves as a benchmark for wine enthusiasts and collectors seeking wines with exceptional aging potential.
"Porto Ferreira Vintage 2024 is a wine of outstanding quality that faithfully mirrors the character of the harvest an exceptional year in the Douro, while also reflecting the Ferreira style, marked by harmony and elegance. It offers depth, balance, and remarkable complexity, but above all, the structure and aging potential we look for in a great Vintage Port. Achieving the No. 1 position in Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Cellar Selections is a particularly meaningful recognition of this wine's quality and the meticulous work of the entire team that brought it to life,” says Luís de Sottomayor, Head Winemaker for Douro and Port Wines.
For Sogrape, achieving first place is particularly relevant - besides recognizing the excellence of Porto Ferreira, it places a Portuguese Port Wine at the top of an international ranking that includes some of the greatest wines with aging potential in the world.
"This distinction holds very special meaning for us. Ferreira occupies a unique place in Sogrape's history and, naturally, in our family's history as well. Above all, however, it is an integral part of the history of the Douro and Port Wine. To witness Porto Ferreira Vintage 2024 achieving the first place in an international ranking of this magnitude fills Sogrape with an enormous pride, while representing a recognition of the excellence of Portuguese wine. It strengthens our commitment to preserving this legacy, honoring its history, and carrying it forward for future generations,” says Fernando da Cunha Guedes, President of Sogrape.
Founded in 1751, Porto Ferreira is the only major Port Wine brand to have remained Portuguese throughout its history, with an identity deeply rooted in the Douro and Portuguese wine. This latest distinction further consolidates its position among the world's leading Port Wine brands and continues a tradition of excellence recognized by Wine Enthusiast, which previously awarded Porto Ferreira Vintage 2018 a perfect 100-point score, the publication's highest rating.
