Quinta da Romeyra unveils a new chapter for Arinto de Bucelas
With documented roots dating back to 1218, Quinta da Romeyra is one of the founding sites of Bucelas and of the history of the Arinto grape variety. Today, this legacy takes on a new expression. Quinta da Romeyra presents its new brand identity alongside a renewed portfolio that clearly affirms its role as guardian of the Arinto grape and the Bucelas territory — the only denomination of origin in Portugal dedicated exclusively to white wines.
Over the centuries, Quinta da Romeyra has been the setting for defining moments in Portuguese history, from the passage of the Duke of Wellington during the French Invasions to the establishment of the Morgado de Santa Catherina in 1703. This heritage is not merely a memory; it is a foundation. And it is also the starting point for a contemporary vision that looks to the future with ambition, rigor and creativity.
It is within this balance between heritage and future that the brand reclaims its original spelling and introduces a portfolio designed to interpret Bucelas with authenticity, highlighting the diversity of soils and exposures across the estate and the vibrancy that defines the region’s Arinto.
Launching in May, Quinta da Romeyra Colheita 2025 is introduced as a faithful and representative expression of the estate. The wine combines the depth and volume of the north-facing slopes with the vibrant acidity and freshness of the south-facing vineyards, resulting in a balanced and versatile profile, conceived for different moments of consumption.
Also in May, Vinha dos Fósseis 2021 is released, produced only in truly exceptional years. The ultimate expression of a singular terroir, it comes from soils formed during the Jurassic period, where marine fossils remain, revealing marked minerality and a deep, complex profile aimed at discerning wine lovers. Reviving the great tradition of aged Bucelas whites, it is released with five years of evolution — a deliberately bold gesture that presents the wine at a remarkable moment of balance and expression, while retaining sufficient structure and freshness to continue evolving in bottle. A white of ambition, it stands confidently alongside the world’s great white wines.
This new phase also brings together well-known references for consumers, now integrated into a broader and more coherent portfolio. Prova Régia, a light and contemporary interpretation of Bucelas, retains its fresh and approachable profile, while Quinta da Romeyra Espumante Bruto, produced using the traditional method, continues to express the elegance and freshness characteristic of the region. Morgado de Santa Catherina Reserva, one of Bucelas’ most iconic names, is also presented with a new image, preserving the complexity and ageing potential that have made it a historic benchmark of the denomination.
“The diversity of soils and exposures at Quinta da Romeyra allows us to work with Arinto in great detail, exploring different interpretations within the same estate. This portfolio reflects that approach, with wines that express freshness, structure and a strong connection to their origin,” highlights Luís Cabral de Almeida, winemaker at Quinta da Romeyra.
“Quinta da Romeyra is part of the founding history of Bucelas and Arinto. Honouring that legacy is, for us, both a duty and a responsibility towards the future. This new phase affirms a clear vision: to preserve the unique identity of the region, enhance a singular grape variety and continue to project Bucelas as a territory of great white wines,” concludes Fernando da Cunha Guedes, President of Sogrape.
