Following the announcement of the winners of the latest edition of the Dona Antónia Awards, which recognize Portuguese women whose achievements reflect the values of Ferreirinha, Casa Ferreirinha now marks the anniversary of the woman who shaped the history of the Douro with the release of the new vintage of Antónia Adelaide Ferreira DOC Douro Red. Produced in a limited edition of 4,196 numbered bottles, the 2022 vintage continues the tribute that the brand has paid to her since 2011.
While the Dona Antónia Awards keep her legacy alive through contemporary examples of leadership, entrepreneurship and social impact, this wine celebrates the woman who inspired that legacy. Created in 2011 as part of the bicentenary celebrations of her birth, Antónia Adelaide Ferreira honours the figure who transformed the Douro, advanced the quality of its wines and helped project the region beyond Portugal’s borders. More than a century later, her vision remains present in the estates, vineyards and wines that bear the signature of Casa Ferreirinha.
Produced from a meticulous selection of the finest lots sourced from Casa Ferreirinha’s estates in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior sub-regions, where old-vine field blends play a decisive role, Antónia Adelaide Ferreira DOC Douro Red 2022 reflects both the unique character of the vintage and the expression of the terroirs that Dona Antónia valued so highly.

Marked by a hot and dry growing season, with low rainfall and several heatwaves that naturally led to lower yields, the 2022 vintage benefited from the milder conditions recorded in September, allowing for a balanced final stage of ripening and resulting in wines of remarkable elegance and precision. The outcome of a rigorous selection of the finest lots from Casa Ferreirinha’s Douro estates and extended aging in oak, Antónia Adelaide Ferreira DOC Douro Red 2022 expresses the singular character of the vintage through complex aromas of spices, red fruits and balsamic notes, revealing excellent balance on the palate, a rich texture and a long, persistent finish—worthy of the ambition behind this tribute to one of the most iconic figures in Douro history.
Part of the annual celebrations dedicated to Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, this release follows the announcement of the winners of the 2026 Dona Antónia Awards, reinforcing the commitment to preserve the memory of one of the Douro’s most remarkable figures through both the recognition of female talent and the creation of a wine that seeks to embody the values of excellence, vision and perseverance that defined her life.
