Casa Ferreirinha Unveils a New Expression Of The Douro Superior With Callabriga White 2025
Casa Ferreirinha presents Callabriga White 2025, a white wine that reflects the identity of the Douro Superior and the work Casa Ferreirinha has been developing in the region’s highest-altitude areas.
Thirty years after the launch of the first Callabriga red, this new wine continues the same vision: interpreting the character of the Douro Superior through its grape varieties, its diverse terroirs and an ever-evolving approach to viticulture.
Over recent decades, Casa Ferreirinha has been exploring the potential of high-altitude vineyards in the Douro Superior. This work gained new momentum from 2017 onwards, with the acquisition, planting and restoration of vineyards at higher elevations across the region.
Callabriga White 2025 is made from grapes sourced from Quinta da Muxagata, acquired in 2020, where vineyards reach an altitude of 500 metres, and Tapada do Castanheiro, acquired in 2017, with vineyards located at elevations of up to 600 metres.
“When we first started thinking about this wine, we knew it was not enough simply to make a white Callabriga. We needed to find a distinctive expression, one that would showcase the freshness and elegance of the white grape varieties grown in our high-altitude vineyards, without losing the identity of the Douro Superior. It is very exciting to see a new generation, with Lourenço Charters in winemaking and Fernando Agulló Guedes representing the family, challenging us, bringing new ideas and encouraging us to look differently at a territory we have known for so many years. Callabriga White is also born from this dialogue between experience and a new way of thinking about the Douro,” says winemaker Luís de Sottomayor.
Made from Rabigato (35%), Viosinho (30%), Gouveio (20%) and Arinto (15%), Callabriga White 2025 was aged for approximately eight months in oak barrels, predominantly new.
Bright citrus in colour, it has an elegant and complex profile, with aromas of white fruit, orange blossom and citrus notes. On the palate, it shows volume and freshness, with well-integrated oak and a long, precise finish.
With a limited release of 8,371 bottles, Callabriga White 2025 opens a new chapter in the history of Callabriga and reinforces Casa Ferreirinha’s ability to continue discovering new expressions of the Douro Superior.
