Sandeman Raises The Bar For Aged White Ports With Its New Aged White 10 Years Old
Sandeman, the world’s most award-winning Port brand in the Aged Tawnies* category, presents Aged White 10 Years Old, a new release that reinforces its pioneering spirit and its ability to reinvent traditional categories. The result of a selection of white Port wines aged for over ten years, this wine combines the depth and complexity of ageing with the freshness and elegance characteristic of the finest white Port wines. With over two centuries of history, Sandeman now applies to its Aged Whites the expertise, high standards and innovation that have distinguished the brand since 1790.
Sandeman Aged White 10 Years Old is the result of a meticulous selection of white Port wines aged for over a decade, with the aim of creating a blend capable of expressing the full richness and potential of this category. It is from this rigorous winemaking process, combined with the time spent ageing in casks, that a fresh, elegant, complex and beautifully balanced wine emerges.
In the glass, it reveals a vivid, luminous golden colour, accompanied by a rich aromatic profile, characterised by notes of candied orange peel, white fruit, floral notes and hints of dried fruit. On the palate, it reveals a balance between freshness and sweetness, an enveloping texture and a long, persistent finish. The result is a wine of great body, with an enveloping texture and a long, persistent finish, which highlights the ageing potential of Aged White Port Wines.
For Luís de Sottomayor, Sogrape’s Director of Oenology for Douro and Port Wines, the launch represents an opportunity to explore the full potential of Aged White Port Wines: “The future of Port is also written in white. This wine demonstrates the potential for development, complexity and sophistication that aged white Port wines can achieve when time is the key to their identity. It is a blend that expresses identity, balance and an enormous capacity to surprise those who taste it.”
The annual production of Sandeman Aged White 10 Years Old is limited, reflecting the long ageing period and the meticulous selection of the wines that make up each blend. This demanding process reinforces the exclusive nature of this wine and Sandeman’s commitment to excellence in age-stated Port wines.
The new release features a visual identity that deliberately breaks with the category’s more traditional conventions. The vibrant greens contrast with the aesthetic usually associated with aged wines, whilst the number 10 takes centre stage on the bottle, accompanied by subtle geometric elements that emphasise its contemporary feel. A fresh and sophisticated visual language that captures the character of the wine itself: elegant, vibrant and complex, whilst remaining true to Sandeman’s heritage and authenticity.
The new release was initially available exclusively at the Sandeman Cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and at Quinta do Seixo in the Douro, and is now available at the usual retail outlets throughout Portugal. Portugal is one of the brand’s key export markets, alongside the United States, the United Kingdom, Benelux and Denmark.
Presented in the classic 750 ml bottle from the age-stated wine range, with its distinctive black capsule, Sandeman Aged White 10 Years Old has a recommended retail price (indicative and non-binding) of €33.95. With this launch, Sandeman once again reinforces its ability to view tradition from a fresh perspective, bringing a historic category closer to new consumers and new drinking occasions, whilst contributing to the promotion of White Port Wines – a growing category that is winning over consumers and asserting its relevance in the future of Port Wine.
