Sogrape Declares 2024 Vintage For Porto Ferreira And Sandeman
There are years that go down in History, and 2024 was one of them for the Douro region. Sogrape today announces the declaration of Porto Vintage 2024 for two of its most prestigious brands – Porto Ferreira and Sandeman – the result of an exceptional harvest that gave rise to wines of remarkable structure, depth and elegance, destined to stand among the great vintages of the region. The new Vintages will be released to the market in June this year.
The declaration of a Vintage represents the pinnacle of the Port Wine sector. For Sogrape, this announcement reinforces its commitment to excellence and to the preservation of a centuries-old legacy. Porto Ferreira Vintage 2024 and Sandeman Vintage 2024 are the highest expression of this extraordinary harvest and the first Classic Vintages of this decade for both houses, further underscoring their exclusivity and the demanding standards inherent to the meticulous production of this special category of Port Wine.
According to Fernando da Cunha Guedes, President of Sogrape, this declaration is a tribute to nature and time: “Declaring a Vintage is about recognising a truly exceptional year, but also about assuming the responsibility of honouring that unique moment. The 2024 winegrowing year was marked by a winter with some rainfall, a spring of high temperatures and significant rain in March. The summer, dry and hot, required careful management of harvest dates, influenced by falling temperatures in September and rainfall in October. The result was a productive year with high qualitative potential, yielding vibrant wines of great structure, which made it possible to anticipate the declaration of the Vintages now announced.
Luís de Sottomayor, Sogrape’s Head of Winemaking and responsible for Douro and Port wines, highlights the distinction of this harvest: “The 2024 Vintages display remarkable freshness and harmony. Porto Ferreira Vintage 2024 stands out for its solid structure, elegance and high-quality tannins, a profile true to the brand’s historic style. In turn, Sandeman Vintage 2024 reveals a robust, concentrated profile with great depth, marked by firm tannins that promise extraordinary longevity.”
With this announcement, Sogrape anticipates the market release, from June 2026 onwards, of two wines that promise to captivate collectors, specialists and wine lovers around the world, and extends a special invitation to its historic cellar – which includes Vintages dating back to 1820.
