Douro Bites: Sogrape opens pop up in Pinhão Station
Reinforcing its partnership with Chef Vasco Coelho Santos, Sogrape is opening the doors of the Douro Bites pop-up at Pinhão station. Offering light, relaxed gastronomic suggestions, "bites" are the protagonists. The space will be open until the end of October.
The menu at Douro Bites starts with tomato gazpacho - after all, the tomato is king there - and continues with suggestions of codfish cakes, pork cheeks or sardine escabeche. Hokaido sandwiches, a type of bread from the brioche family, and octopus and tomato salads also feature. For dessert, because we're in the Douro and it's harvest time, there's chocolate tart and grapes! The wine list includes a selection of Douro wines and port, with Casa Ferreirinha and Porto Ferreira standing out, two historical references in Sogrape's portfolio.
Located on the top floor of the Pinhão train station, Douro Bites brings some of the cuisine of the SEIXO restaurant to this emblematic Douro location in a different, lighter and more relaxed concept. Sogrape thus complements its offer at this must-see station, where it already has a wine shop with a wide range of wines and tasting options harmonised with local products.
"Douro Bites reinforces Sogrape's presence in the Douro with a concept that complements the current offer in the region," according to Joana Pais, Head of Hospitality and PR at Sogrape, adding that this is "a very comfortable space, with a light, diversified menu, in a place that is fascinating for its history and beauty."
With 24 tile panels telling the different stages of port production, Pinhão Station is known as one of the most beautiful railway stations in the country. A must-visit for those travelling along the Douro, it welcomed its first train on 1 June 1880 and played a very important role in the port business, as it allowed the wine to be transported by train.
