Ferreira Cellars Host Iconic Serralves Collection Exhibition
– Porto Ferreira and the Serralves Foundation are once again joining hands to celebrate two cornerstones of Portuguese culture: art and wine. Integrated in the “Coleção de Serralves fora de portas” (Serralves Collection Beyond Walls) program, the exhibition “Linhas de Vento: Percursos Artísticos na Natureza” (Wind Lines: Artistic Journeys in Nature) is now on display at the Ferreira Cellars, in Vila Nova de Gaia. This experience invites visitors to explore new perspectives on the Douro Region's territory and landscape through contemporary art.
Curated by Joana Valsassina, this joint exhibition features works by four renowned artists — Ângelo de Sousa, Fernando José Pereira, Fernando Lanhas, and Richard Long — whose creations draw inspiration from nature and interactions with the outdoors. The featured artworks are integrated into the visitor tour of the Cellars, establishing a subtle and surprising dialogue with the environment where some of the brand’s most prestigious Port Wines have been aging for decades. Their presence underscores Sogrape’s and the Serralves Foundation’s shared commitment to bringing art to new audiences, enhancing cultural accessibility, and building unexpected bridges between tradition and modernity.
This is the third collaboration between Porto Ferreira and the Serralves Foundation under this initiative to bring the Foundation’s collection to unique venues across Portugal. In this edition, the exhibition “Linhas de Vento: Percursos Artísticos na Natureza” (Wind Lines: Artistic Journeys in Nature) symbolically evokes the connection between the history of Port Wine and the paths charted by Dona Antónia in the Douro landscape — a fusion of memory, identity, and artistic creation. This brings a new dimension to visiting the Cellars, transforming it into a cultural and sensory experience that delights both returning guests and first-time visitors.
“This initiative strengthens the long-standing relationship between the Serralves Foundation and Sogrape. To see two art forms – wine aging and contemporary art – coexist in such an iconic place as Ferreira Cellars, paying tribute to Dona Antónia and the Douro, is something that deeply honors us, and fills us with pride, as this is a House that has always valued and promoted culture,”, says Raquel Seabra, Executive Board Member at Sogrape.
The artworks are displayed in several key locations along the visitor route, such as the Cruz Hall and the tasting room. During the tour, guests also have the opportunity to explore iconic spaces like the Dona Antónia House, which preserves historic documents and personal belongings that reflect the life of one of the Douro Region’s most influential figures. The visit also includes an area fully dedicated to Ferreira’s Vintage heritage, spanning three centuries of history.
The exhibition “Linhas de Vento: Percursos Artísticos na Natureza” (Wind Lines: Artistic Journeys in Nature) is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, at the Ferreira Cellars, in Vila Nova de Gaia, and is included with a ticket for the Cellars tour.
