Sogrape reinforces commitment in Alentejo with new wines
With over three decades of experience in the Alentejo region, Sogrape is reinforcing its investment in Herdade do Peso by presenting new wines and planting over 40 hectares of vineyards.
Developed for over three decades by the Guedes family, Herdade do Peso, Sogrape’s estate in Vidigueira, is introducing new wines: Herdade do Peso Parcelas 2018, Herdade do Peso Revelado 2019 and Herdade do Peso Reserva 2019. These new additions result from a cooperation between the viticulture and oenology teams, beginning at the vineyard, by identifying soil and choosing varieties and clones that best fit each parcel, and ending at the winery. Under the leadership of Luís Cabral de Almeida, Sogrape’s Head of Oenology in Alentejo, Herdade do Peso produced wines that respect nature and uniquely express its distinctive variety of terroirs.

Herdade do Peso is one of Sogrape’s major estates, with the ambition of revealing the best of Alentejo to the rest of the world. It currently bears 160 hectares of vineyards, including 140 red varieties (Aragonez, Syrah, Alicante Bouschet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Touriga Nacional, Petit Verdot, and more) and 20 white varieties (with Antão Vaz, Arinto and Viogner standing out), representing 10% of the total area of vineyards owned by the company worldwide.

The nature in each soil. Herdade do Peso Parcelas reflects a selected part of the Peso estate in each year. The profound knowledge of every vine planted allows us to identify the parcels that nature most benefited in each season.In 2018, parcel 21, with Alicante Bouschet, produced an authentic wine, vinified with minimum intervention. Herdade do Peso Revelado 2019
The full weight of Peso. Herdade do Peso Revelado showcases a blend of all soils and varieties, followed with dedication from the vineyard to the choices favouring the preservation of biodiversity. It is the culmination of a blend preparation by choosing and combining authentic aromas and flavours. Herdade do Peso Reserva 2019
A more exclusive Peso, offered by nature. By combining tradition and innovation, we selected part of the fruit from the best parcels. We created Herdade do Peso Reserva with noble materials and allowed time to take its course, and make its magic. The magic of creators, true artists in using the spices nature offered us to create a unique mystery and complexity. An exploration of the best that several varieties have to offer, through which we unveiled Alicante Bouschet and Touriga Nacional abroad. Herdade do Peso Reserva 2019 will reach the market in 2023.
