Since the first harvest in 2008, each bottle of Legado contains a wine that honours the memory, passion, and vision of a man who dreamed of passing on a legacy to future generations. The 2020 harvest will be released in May and is a tribute from Fernando Guedes to the heritage received from his father, to the old vines of Quinta do Caêdo that moved him, and to those who allowed this inspiring story to continue to be written.
Originating from the century-old vines of Quinta do Caêdo in Ervedosa do Douro, Legado is the ultimate expression of Fernando Guedes' dream: to create a wine that honours the Douro, but above all, the passion and values of a family dedicated to wine. Conceived as a symbol of continuity between generations, this wine celebrates the past with its feet firmly planted in the present and its eyes set on the future.
For Fernando da Cunha Guedes, current President of Sogrape and son of the creator of Legado, "Wine has taught me that time is not measured only in harvests, but in shared emotions and lasting memories. At the heart of Legado pulses the soul of Quinta do Caêdo, a sanctuary of less than 8 hectares of century-old vines, planted on pre-phylloxera terraces that seem to defy gravity as silent guardians of over 25 different grape varieties, coexisting in a true living museum of Douro viticulture. Each terrace deserves the care and reverence of the men and horses who cultivate them, such is the harmony between the imposing rocks and the cycle of life that rises from the soil. The harvest, done by hand with patience and sensitivity, follows the rhythm of maturation, as if each bunch were picked to the beat of the earth's heart.
The 2020 viticultural year brought a spring that was generous in rain, which restored the balance of the land, although with lower production, and a hot and dry summer, which was softened by unexpected rain in August, enough to allow the grapes to mature slowly, providing great elegance and aromatic expression to the wines.
Legado 2020 is a sensory journey, where ripe red fruits meet with spices like pepper and ginger. On the palate, it is pure harmony: well-integrated acidity, high-quality tannins, red fruits, and white pepper, with an extremely long and delicate finish.
With just over 2,000 bottles produced, Legado 2020 is also a promise for the future. A soulful wine, which will know how to wait with elegance.
