Quinta do Seixo opens Biodiversity Route
Quinta do Seixo - Sandeman has now a Biodiversity Route for anyone who wants to pay a unique, open-air visit to one of the most beautiful regions of Portugal. The new experience adds to Sandeman’s wine tourism in the Douro, naturally complementing the wine and environmental knowledge to show how in Quinta do Seixo the best Ports are produced in harmony with nature.
About 1km long and with gentle slopes, the Biodiversity Route of Quinta do Seixo reveals good practices of nature conservation, local ecosystems and biodiversity, while inviting visitors to enjoy an educational tour that reveals the Douro at its best.
"Sogrape is committed to paving the way for a healthier planet and, in that context, biodiversity conservation is part of our commitments. With the creation of this Route, we seek to involve the community in environmental efforts, as well as recover plant biodiversity, create conditions that foster and support animal biodiversity and improve the environmental quality of the wine ecosystem," says Mafalda Guedes, responsible for Sogrape's Global Sustainability Approach.
More than just a destination par excellence, Quinta do Seixo is positioned as a benchmark for sustainability and biodiversity management in viticulture, bringing together all kinds of organisms, from many species of native plants, bats, birds, and arachnids. This project, which enjoyed the collaboration of ADVID, makes Quinta do Seixo a pioneer in providing a complete tour of the biodiversity of a wine-growing estate.
This Route reinforces the wine tourism offer of Sandeman's Douro visit centre, which now has two outdoor visits. The Old Vineyard Route is guided, with a Port Wine tasting in the vineyard and information about the planting methods, the soil and the grape varieties present in this very special part of Quinta do Seixo. The new Biodiversity Route is meant to be done independently, allowing the visitor to discover the estate's great richness in terms of biodiversity in a relaxed way. It ends with a Port Wine tasting that can be complemented with a visit to the Winery. Reservations for the Biodiversity Route at Quinta do Seixo - Sandeman, costing €25, can be made, as of June, at the website below:
