Sogrape declares Vintage 2022: for Porto Ferreira, Sandeman and Offley
Sogrape has just announced the declaration of Vintage 2022 for its three Port houses. After a wine-growing year with favourable climatic conditions for a long and balanced ripening of the grapes, we now have excellent wines that reflect each brand's authenticity and style. Sandeman Quinta do Seixo Vintage 2022, Porto Ferreira Quinta do Porto Vintage 2022, and Offley Vintage 2022 will hit the market in September.
Fernando da Cunha Guedes said that "more than a milestone in time and a promising announcement, each Vintage declaration is a celebration of the best that nature offers us in exceptional years". "Each vintage in this category is the writing of a new and exciting page in the centenary history of Port, a tribute to our ongoing commitment to tradition, quality, and excellence", the President of Sogrape said.
The Douro region had a rainy winter, followed by a mild spring and summer. There was some rain in April and June but no heatwaves. The 2022 seasons had a series of meteorological factors favourable to grape ripening. In September, a little bit of rain meant that the harvest date had to be precisely managed to guarantee the desired quality in each plot.
Luís de Sottomayor, Sogrape's Head of Winemaking responsible for Douro and Port wines, who signs these three 2022 Vintages, speaks of exquisite wines with good acidity, which respect the history of excellence of previous vintages. "Porto Ferreira Quinta do Porto Vintage 2022 and Sandeman Quinta do Seixo Vintage 2022 reflect the typical terroir where they come from. The former is full of structure, depth, and intensity, while the latter stands out for its elegant, harmonious, and complex profile. Offley Vintage 2022 also reflects the characteristics of the climatic year, as it has exceptional volume and remarkable structure", the winemaker said.
Quinta do Porto, the birthplace of Porto Ferreira wines, is home to the unique and surprising Porto Ferreira Quinta do Porto Vintage 2022, in a pure expression of the excellence of its terroir. Quinta do Porto, in the Upper Corgo, has consistently produced the best wines of this Port house, and Porto Ferreira is committed to perpetuating a legacy of more than 270 years and to preserving the excellence of 24 hectares of vineyards between 80 and 350 metres above sea level for generations to come.
Porto Ferreira Quinta do Porto Vintage 2022 joins the historic wine cellar of Ferreira Cellars, one of the most magnificent and oldest Port wine cellars, with Vintages dating back to the early 19th century.
Sandeman Quinta do Seixo Vintage 2022 is an exceptional wine produced through the careful selection of grapes from Quinta do Seixo, one of the largest and most emblematic estates in the heart of the Douro, with dozens of traditional grape varieties from the Douro Demarcated Region planted in its 71 hectares of vineyards.
Sandeman Quinta do Seixo Vintage 2022 continues Sandeman's story, which, even after 230 years of history and experience, continues to renew itself and deepen its commitment to combining tradition with the quality and superior class of its wines.
While the first two wines mirror their specific terroir created from grapes from the best vineyard plots, Offley presents a classic vintage, using the grapes selected from various estates in the region and representing the consistency of the brand's style.
Staying true to its unique identity and having produced almost 300 years of exceptional wines, Offley Vintage 2022 is the brand's seventh vintage of this century, which continues to assert its distinctive style with each of the region's extraordinary vintages.
Porto Ferreira, Sandeman and Offley have a history of excellent scores from international specialised critics for their Vintages, raising expectations for these three new additions to the category, representing Port's highest point of quality. It is worth remembering that Sandeman Quinta do Seixo Vintage 2017, and Porto Ferreira Vintage 2018 have both won 100 points in Wine Enthusiast, the maximum rating awarded by this leading specialised publication.
